Men's run club set up to tackle mental health as conversations spark ahead of Movember

A personal trainer, who lost six male family members to suicide, has set up a men’s mental health run club to tackle increasing concerns around male suicide rates.

Ciaran Howard, 30, grew up surrounded by alcoholism and domestic abuse, and set up Tribal, a run club for men and their minds, in Putney at the start of this year to provide a space for men to talk.

Suicide is three times more common among men than women in England and Wales, according to data gathered between 1981 to 2023 from...

Review: Private Lives, Rose Theatre

‘Timeless’ is a word that, over the years, seems to have lost the gravity of its meaning. It’s been used so much that we’ve become desensitised to it, so instead of resonating, it now conjures up something quite stale. Yet, ‘timeless’ is the only way to describe this production of Noel Coward’s 1930s play Private Lives at The Rose Theatre – and let me assure you, it’s anything but stale.

But for many living in the Welsh valleys, the threat to safety emerges from somewhere quite different: the discarded coal tips from Wales’ mining past.

The risk of collapse is a palpable reality for those living by disused coal tips, the majority of which are based in South Wales. This winter, bad weather...

I feel like for the first time, I belong where I live, says sea swimmer

Lene Hops moved from Germany to Wales in the middle of the pandemic. She was unaware that soon she would discover a passion as a sea swimmer that would allow her to feel “high on life” every day.

Lene unintentionally helped to found the sea swimming group, Dawnstalkers, earlier this year. The Penarth-based group grew organically during the pandemic, as ordinary people appeared at the seafront for sunrise every day to dunk in the water.

It started when Lene realised she had lived in Pe...
